Make no mistake, Chef Christopher Daly can cook with the best of them. This talented CIA grad has starred in many a kitchen including stints with the great Thomas Keller in Los Angeles. We met him some eleven years ago in New York City when he volunteered to help kids and the impending problems associated with the issue of children’s obesity. In short order, Chef Daly found himself in a very different direction than he could have ever anticipated. The children’s thing was a lot more serious than any of us imagined. The good chef joined the battle by starting a movement called “HIP For Kids” (Hospitality Industry Professionals for Kids). The chef’s Hip4Kids has continued its efforts to teach kids and their parents how to combat childhood obesity and type II diabetes. It became his cause on a 24/7 basis, and after all these years, the Chef continues the battle.
The man has tasted a lot of victories and helped a lot of people over all these years, but the efforts of one man are not going to get it done. The obesity problem persists (and it’s possibly worse than ever). Fast foods are not going to go away anytime soon, and in terms of portion control, almost everything we eat is much more than it ought to be. What has to go away is the love affair and the lack of knowledge that so many parents continue to exhibit by allowing fast foods and over-sized portions to become a way of life, and frankly speaking, we have to eat less and exercise more. It’s obviously easy to say, and much more difficult to do.
This column is about the Chef and his amazing cookie which is (according to the chef and a host of nutritional professionals) “The Healthiest Gourmet Cookie in the World”. It is called the “Chocolate Hip Cookie” and certainly worthy of our attention simply because it works. Kids are going to snack no matter what, and the interesting part of the success of his cookie is that adults have discovered the benefits the cookie presents, and health clubs all over are distributing them to their members. The cookie is not just for children, even though the original intention was for kids.
His product contains a secret weapon (so to speak) known as chia. Chia was discovered by the early Aztec and Mayan cultures, and chia seeds are packed with fiber, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants. The tiny, healthy seeds have a unique gelling action that keeps you feeling full for hours. Hunger is a main enemy of real weight loss, and chia helps eliminate hunger and there are no calories involved. Back to the portion thing - the Chocolate HIP cookie is one portion, not an over-sized high calorie deal. Of course, the concept is called moderation. The chef will tell you that he uses real butter and real chocolate chips. If the cookie doesn’t taste good, the concept can’t work. His cookie is baked with all natural ingredients clinically proven to actually reduce blood sugar and cholesterol, and is rich in Omega 3, Antioxidants and Amino Acids.
The lesson is as follows – throw away the diet pills, the potato chips and the ice cream. Have a delicious chocolate chip cookie that is actually good for you. We don’t mind suggesting that you visit his site and order some cookies. This is not an advertisement – we are talking about the health of our children. A chef is doing something to help people, and we are 100% on board.
